“…A little pinch of Salt”

It is ironic but if you take what someone says with a pinch, or grain of salt, you do not completely believe them… or so the saying goes.  However, salt should not be viewed with skepticism!

Most of us, and that includes, me add salt to many things we eat… We are constantly seeing celebrity cooks season their ingredients, which we all know adds great taste.  But we should all be aware of the well documented dangers of too much salt in our diet.

Salt is highly addictive and it will make you thirsty, this is why all bars sell salted peanuts and crisps.  This craving for liquid however is rarely for water, making you veer towards carbonated drinks such as coke, lemonade and larger.  Salt intake makes you crave sweet high calorie type foods and so higher calories are ingested and the potential for weight gain increased.

Reducing salt intake, while at the same time eating more fruit and vegetables will move your body to a more balanced and healthy state.  If you cut down on salt you’ll notice the difference in your energy levels, smoother skin condition and better bodily functions.

While we should not cut salt out in our diets completely too much salt caused acidity, drawing calcium from your bones and resulting in dry skin, brittle nails and stiffening joints.
