Simple and Inexpensive Tips for Longer Lashes

Lets’ face it, every girl desires longer and more beautiful eyelashes. While some girls are born with long eyelashes they like showing off, there are some ladies who aren’t so lucky. However, there are some tips and inexpensive natural products worth using to improve the length of a woman’s eyelashes.

It can be very beneficial to apply olive oil or vitamin E oil to your eyelashes at regular intervals. These natural oils help to strengthen your eyelashes and let them grow longer before they shed. Some woman also like to apply Vaseline for longer eyelashes as it has shown some benefit when it comes to longer lashes. The difference between using Vaseline and the natural oils is that while Vaseline has a tendency to clog pores, vitamin E and olive oil don’t have this problem. Vaseline is usually applied in the evening washed off the following morning. Although it’s fine to use olive oil or vitamin E oil during the day, it will be next to impossible to use it if you plan on applying mascara. It should come as no surprise that diet also plays a very important role in the health and appearance of your eyelashes. The right nourishment and multivitamins go a long way in helping you grow longer eyelashes naturally. You’ll find Biotin is typically recommended for strengthening of hair and nails so it stands to reason that it will benefit your eyelashes as well. Always talk to your doctor before taking any supplements or multivitamins on a regular basis, especially if you are taking prescription medication.

When you wear makeup, try to avoid letting your mascara dry out on your eyelashes as this can end up breaking your lashes. To help prevent your eyelashes from drying out, it’s helpful to use an eyelash conditioner like Ultracil before you apply your mascara. Many women have claimed to get longer eyelashes after trimming them however this is considered mostly myth. If you do decide to trim your lashes, proceed with caution or leave it to a professional. If you do it incorrectly, you’ll be stuck with your mistake and be waiting a long time for your lashes to return to their normal length. And when it comes to eyelash curlers, try to be very gentle. Many older metal clamp style curlers have a tendency to pull and break your eyelashes which is obviously something you want to avoid. One of the new heated eyelash curlers would be a better option.

These more modern curlers such as eyecurl use a small heating coil to assist in curling your lashes without causing the damage of the older models.  Another benefit of the heated curlers is that you can use them before or after you apply your mascara, something that’s not possible with the clamp type curlers. Try these tips and before you know it, you’ll be on your way to having longer and more beautiful eyelashes without breaking the bank

The right type of Chocolate!

Want help to look younger?

It’s incredibly tempting to crack open a bar of Green & Black’s mid-afternoon, but according to CHLOE DOUTRE-ROUSSEL, author of the Chocolate Connoisseur, we should be drinking the stuff instead.  Cocoa Powder is rich in antioxidants and therefore super-anti-ageing.  Try having a cup of cocoa with water instead of milk when you feel your energy levels dropping – but don’t be tempted to add sugar!

Your step-by-step guide to the ultimate cleanse

FIRST remove every scrap of eye make-up, so you can focus totally on the face.  Fill a basin with warm water and add a few drops of essential oils.  Lavender is the most relaxing, so it’s nice to use at the end of a long day.

SOAK a clean facecloth in warm water for one minute before pressing it into your skin, all over your face.  This kick-starts the cleansing process, allowing the dirt and clogged porse to be released while stimulating your skin.

TAKE Dermalogica’s Pre-Cleanse Oil and spend time massaging it into your skin, concentrating on the contours of the facial bones and not forgetting your neck.

FINISH by rinsing it off with warm water.  Try to do this at least three times a week, however we would recommend everyday.

Tips for Maintaining Good Eyelash Care

Is your current eyelash care routine virtually nonexistent or lacking? While there isn’t much work involved in maintaining good care of your lashes, it’s important to give your lashes the grooming they need. In this article we are going to talk about ways that you can maintain good eyelash health as well as cosmetic ways to get a fuller looking set of lashes.

Why is it that we often apply conditioner and other replenishing treatments to the hair on top of our heads, but we often neglect the needs of our eyelashes? Just like any other hair on our body, our eyelashes sometimes need a boost to remain supple and produce good re-growth volume. Some people recommend using olive oil or almond oil to provide this nourishment. Before bed, dip the end of a q-tip into the oil. Just a dab is needed. Close your eyes and gently apply the oil to your lashes. Use a bit of tissue to wipe off the excess oil. Open your eyes and comb through your lashes with an eyelash comb. If you do this routine about three times a week, you should notice a difference in not only the number of new hairs growing, but also in the flexibility of your lashes. It’s also a good rule to remove all eye makeup before going to bed. Eyelashes need a chance to breathe, and they won’t get that if they are coated in mascara 23 hours a day.

If you are looking for a quick fix, then pay attention! Sometimes, mistakes happen. Maybe you pulled out a few (or a lot!) of your eyelashes by being too vigorous with the lash curler. Or perhaps you simply weren’t gifted with ultra thick or luxuriously long eyelashes. But for whatever reason you might have for wanting to improve the look of your lashes, cosmetics are here to save the day! Your fist option is applying false eyelashes. While this takes a steady hand, it isn’t impossible. The first thing you need to do is practice putting them on! Don’t wait until 10 minutes before you need to be out the door. A quick job could mean the embarrassment of one of your eyelashes falling off during dinner or being applied crooked. Make sure the false lashes are the same length as your eye. It’s okay to trim off the excess lashes. I find it easier to apply the lashes if you put the lash glue on the back of your hand first, then dab the base of the lashes into the glue. This keeps the glue from being too runny when you apply it to your eyelid. Try to get the false lashes as close to the base of your natural lashes and press down on the ends of the lashes (this reduces the likelihood of your lashes sticking to your fingers). Blend your natural and false lashes together using mascara. Curl them gently using an eyelash curler such as eyecurl.

eyecurl heated eyelash curler

Another way that cosmetics can make your eyelashes appear fuller is to apply eyeliner as close to the base of your lashes as possible. This will aid in helping your lashes appear fuller. Apply your mascara as usual. If you want to make them look longer as well, use an eyelash curler after applying your mascara. It is recommended that you use the curler very gently, as pressing too hard can result in cutting your eyelashes.

If you want a longer-lasting remedy and don’t mind spending a few hundred pounds, you can always look into the possibility of an eyelash transplant or professional eyelash extensions such as Hollywood Lashes. Whatever cosmetics you apply throughout the day to improve the overall look of your eyelashes, remember that it’s only a quick fix. For genuinely healthier eyelashes, you must commit to a routine of gently removing all eye makeup before bed and applying some sort of nourishing treatment a few times each week.

Overnight Repair Serum…

From an early age we are told that things will look better in the morning and it isn’t just emotional and mental troubles which improve after several restful hours under the duvet.  Sleep offers a period of dynamic, system-wide repair and healing synchronised with the body’s circadian rhythms and this medical fact inspired Dermalogica’s latest treatment product for ageing skin, Overnight Repair Serum.

Overnight Repair Serum

Replenishing and repairing skin alongside increased luminosity, are the primary benefits of Overnight Repair Serum.  The powerful palmitoyl tripeptde-38 accelerated collagen production whilst firming with renewed resilience.  Rich argan and rose oils support the lipid barrier to revitalise lacklustre skin and smooth away fine lines.  Brown seaweed further supports repair by inhibited enzymes which break down collagen and provides anti oxidant protection superior to both vitamins C and E.

This supercharged peptide maximises night time skin repair, replenishes lost oils, minimising fine lines and leaving the skin soft and luminous.  A further benefit is the soothing aromas of jasmine, rose, ylang-ylang, geranium, rosemary, cinnamon and neroli botanical oils which help restore skin barriers.  The strategic chemical partnering enables the powerful peptide to produce results whilst essential oils and restorative agents help skin integrity and protection.

Apply four to six drops directly to cleansed skin or mix with prescribed night-time moisturiser before letting sleep take over.

Dermalogica may not be able to cure insomnia, but it can change your skin forever.  All Dermalogica products take into account an understanding of modern skin stress and active, busy lifestyles.  The professional recommended products do not involve complicated outdated rituals.

The Story of Mother’s Day

The story of Mothers Day is rich with history.  It is neither a recent phenomenon as many people believe it to be, nor is it the creation of card and gift marketers syndicate as assumed by cynics.  To the surprise of a lot of people Mothers Day celebrations are first said to have taken place in the time of ancient Greeks and Romans hundreds of years ago. Even Mothers Day celebrations in UK began much before the tradition saw the light of the day in US. In US along with others the efforts of Ms Julia Ward Howe  and Ms Anna Jarvis  (see below) are greatly recognised for starting the tradition of Mothers Day.

Today Mothers Day is celebrated in more than 46 countries around the world though at different times in the month of May and in some countries it is celebrated in entirely different times of the year. In the present time Mothers Day has come to be internationally recognised as the day to honor all mothers and thank them for the services they impart for the benefit of their individual child and consequently to the development of mankind.

Mother’s Day Story: Celebrations in the time of Greeks and Romans
The tradition of Mothers Day started with the ancient Greeks who celebrated their annual spring festival in honor of Rhea (see below), the mother of many Gods and Goddesses in the Greek mythology. Ancient Romans too celebrated a spring festival by the name of Hilaria in honor of Cybele, a mother goddess, some 250 years before Christ was born.

Mother’s Day Story: Celebrations in UK
In UK, Mothers Day celebrations started by the name of Mothering Sunday, several years before the tradition found its roots in UK.  Mothering Sunday came to be celebrated following the practice in UK of 17th century wherein children of poor families were send to work as apprentice and domestic servants with the rich. These children were allowed to visit their ‘Mother Church’ or the Cathedral of their home town annually in the middle of the fasting month of Lent.  Children met their mothers after visiting the church and presented them with flowers and special ‘Mothering Cakes’. The custom received a set back with the advent of Industrial Revolution when the lifestyles changes. American soldiers contributed in the revival of the tradition after the World War II.  (pic a tradition recipe for Simnel Cake)

Mother’s Day Story: Genesis of the Festival in US
The story of Mothers Day in US began with the efforts of a dynamic writer and poetess, Julia Ward Howe in 1872. An activist to the core Julia utilised her potentials to further the cause of Mothers Day. She wrote a powerful Mothers Day Proclamation in Boston in 1870 and demanded declaration of official holiday and celebrations on Mothers Day. Her idea gained popularity but she could not get the idea implemented.

Mother’s Day Story: Struggle of Anna Jarvis
A loving daughter from West Virginia, Anna Jarvis is recognised as a ‘Founder of Mothers Day’ and ‘Mother of Mothers Day’. Anna kept the word of her activist mother; Mrs Ann Marie Reeves Jarvis who once expressed a wish that someone should strive to provide mothers their due recognition. After her mothers death in 1905, Anna’s determination became strong and she along with several supporters started lobbying for the official holiday on Mothers Day by writing letters to the people in power. To celebrate Mothers Day, Anna began to send her mothers favourite flowers, carnations in her local church requesting people to wear them in honor of their mothers. The idea gained immense popularity over the years and in 1910, West Virginia became the first state to recognize Mothers Day holiday. On May 8, 1914 President Woodrow Wilson signed a Joint Resolution designating the second Sunday in May as Mother’s Day.

I was pleased to find that Mother’s Day has such a rich history and that it’s not all about commercial interests, but especially that these people and traditions are not totally lost!  So, on Sunday 18th March, 2012, Mothering Sunday, Mother’s Day or the fourth Sunday of Lent I’ll remember my mother as I do everyday.

Why ‘Body Brushing’ is good for your skin!

Body brushing – also called skin brushing – is one of the best ways to care for your skin. It helps to break up fatty deposits, aids in lymphatic drainage and detoxification, and stimulates circulation on top of the basic exfoliation.

Body brushing’s gentle massaging motion of the bristles has a beneficial effect on areas of cellulite, and it is an effective treatment for helping to eliminate toxins from the body. Most of us can’t manage to have a luxury salon treatment every day to revitalise our body and mind, but it is easy to fit in 3-7 minutes of body brushing every morning for similar effects.

Reasons to body brush

• Stimulates blood flow to increase nutrient delivery to cells
• improves lymph flow to carry toxins and waste products out of the body
• Removes dry, dead skin cells
• Encourages cells to regenerate
• Results in smooth glowing skin
• Stimulates production of sebum (oil), to nourish dry skin
• Helps combat cellulite and fatty deposits
• Increases energy and stimulates the body
• Feels great

At Wendy O’Hare Skin Care we take skin health very seriously and our March offer includes body brushing so that you can experience this for your self.  Plus, for the first 20 customers to book this treatment the offer also includes a free body brush worth £10.00
